IBM continues expansion with data center in Beijing

One way to increase the ease of interacting with different companies, or at least different sectors of your business, is to become less dependent on the mainframe in one specific geographical location.

IBM has, according to Business Cloud News, recently endeavored to make this a little simpler for companies in Beijing by introducing a new data center there. This facility will reportedly follow along the path established by its work in Linux mainframes in some of the previous countries it has introduced such systems to.

The center will also bring the means to sustain support and maintenance of successful mainframe adoption. Along with the company's other recent efforts to promote its mainframe, it seems like a means to test whether the longstanding computing mainstay still has legs.

As far as cloud activity within China and surrounding nations go, it appears there are other companies that will be looking for customers within this region. TechCrunch recently reported on Aliyun, the cloud division of Alibaba Group, which announced last month its intention to expand into Hong Kong with its own data center.

The article notes that it also maintains centers in major Chinese urban areas like Beijing, and though it has plans for further development of its systems, does not seem to be expressing interest in growing to the U.S. Local and international competitors still represent a challenge to this brand, however.

The more coherent your cloud-based activity is, the more successful your attempts to develop may be. Mainframe modernization can be the key to turning your business into one geared for a more global approach.
