The 2016 Mobile World Congress and its impact on business

Between February 27 and March 2, attendees gathered in Barcelona to see the latest advances in mobile. This year's Mobile World Congress brought several important trends to the forefront, according to a report from Dennis Technology.

The source said that this year's Congress welcomed a historic 2,200 companies, with visitors hailing from 204 different countries. Although there was significant attention paid to new technologies like virtual reality, mobile unsurprisingly permeated the event, especially when it came to the Internet of Things. The traditional PC also saw a bit of resurgence, with newer models adding modern design to the appeal of a portable, high-functioning computer turning heads.

"MWC was vast because mobile is now the predominant platform for technology," it stated. "Not only is it the primary way of accessing the internet for the majority of people in the world, its developments are beginning to have an impact on every other kind of technology too."

In an overview of the event for PC World, Michael Miller mentioned mobile apps as another focus point, as companies strive to connect all of their apps, especially when using custom solutions. Major companies such as IBM and Adobe were seen investing in app development tools. 

Whether it's business applications or newly communicating technologies, the event sent a message about the power of strong networks. Another commentator, Dan Cunliffe of Pangea, said that "in order to go far you need to work together" in a piece for Apps Tech News.

The MWC also included a new edition of the Global Mobile awards, with honors going to entries in eight different categories, including Best Mobile Apps and Best Mobile Technology. 

All of these reports show a possible emphasis on greater mobile solutions for the near future. Businesses can use terminal emulation as part of this trend to access their essential mainframe functions in new forms.
