According to Cisco, cloud traffic is expected to increase significantly within the next four years. The company detailed its data predictions in a press release tied to its most recent Global Cloud Index, citing the growing acceptance of the cloud around the world and the larger number of devices incorporated into the network of what the source calls the "Internet of Everything" (IoE).
While last year saw the annual global data center IP traffic reach levels of 3.4 zettabytes (ZB), the source believes this number increase by 7 zettabytes by 2019. Total annual cloud traffic across the world will exceed 8.5 zettabytes during this time, with the largest percentage centered in North America. Although nearly three fourths of data is stored on PCs, the press release notes that this will change as more information migrates to mobile sources.
Once the IoE is fully implemented, the amount of data generated every month in 2019 will be greater than 42 ZB, even larger than the annual prediction. Writing about this latest information for TopTechNews, Jennifer LeClaire summarizes the findings.
"What's driving this exponential growth?" she asks. "It's a convergence Relevant Products/Services of factors, from a mushrooming number of mobile devices that are pushing personal cloud demands to the greater degree of private cloud virtualization Relevant Products/Services, which is raising workload density. The growth of machine-to-machine connections is expected to be a bigger factor in the future."
Staying engaged with the latest technology trends allows enterprises to expand as the possibilities for more mobility increase. Mainframe modernization processes can include features that make chief applications easier to access in a changing digital environment.
