Web, Coldfusion and Microsoft ASP developers can include mainframe and AS/400 host screen content in their dynamic web sites
BURLINGTON, MASS. October 18, 1999 iE, an international leader in integrated e-commerce applications, today unveiled a new version of Screensurfer, the industry's most efficient way to convert host screens into dynamic web pages
Significant new features of Screensurfer include support for Microsoft's Active Server Page technology, enabling ASP developers to tap into IBM mainframes and AS/400s and access to 5250 terminal sessions, opening up the AS/400 community to interactive web developers. In addition, Screensurfer's "hifi" emulation features make it an easy-to-adopt and economic solution to replace terminal emulators.
Screensurfer is a general purpose Web gateway for screen-based host applications. Using Screensurfer, Web developers can easily provide access to their 3270 or 5250-based screens and information from any standard Web browser.
"Over the last year we have seen a significant increase in the number of organizations looking to replace PC-based terminal emulators with a browser solution," says Bill Thorne, VP Products at iE. "Web developers have been selecting screensurfer because it is HTML-centric and provides them both full integration with their existing Web browser infrastructure as well as the ability to easily upgrade the user interface when appropriate. Meanwhile, Screensurfer continues to provide the fastest and most cost-effective tool for integrating screen-based applications with ASP and ColdFusion."
By utilizing Screensurfer, Charleston County has become the first municipality in the nation to provide the public with Web access to court documents. From the most basic civil complaints to the most complicated criminal cases, details on all of the cases are available by logging onto www3.charlestoncounty.org, making it quicker and easier for paralegals, bonding agencies, lawyers and members of the public to get the information they need.
"My goal is to serve the public - and this solution has allowed him to do that easier and quicker than ever before," says MIS director, Bobby Beard. "The public feedback proves it. Since launching the program, emails and letters have come pouring in - all exulting the fact that the Internet application is so much easier to use. Our mission is to provide access to information, and iE's Screensurfer is the key."
