What The Inventu Simulated Host does

Scroll Prev Top Next More

The Inventu Simulated Host acts like an IBM Mainframe, AS/400, I/Series, DEC/VAX or UNIX character-mode computer, but it does this running on a single or network-attached Win32 PC (Windows/NT, Windows/2000 or Windows/XP) and provides a Telnet port on port 23.

The Inventu Simulated Host works with products like Inventu Viewer+ and other emulators by providing a host control point for TN3270, TN3270E, TN5250 and TNVT terminals.

The Telnet host that the Simulated Host provides depends on an input file provided to the service, which may be changed at any time (see Selecting a script file).

The Simulated Host can support simulation of any of the host types supported by the Inventu Viewer+, but only plain TN3270 is currently supported for full scripting of the host actions.

Script Generation

Inventu Viewer+ Studio provides comprehensive script generation using your recordings and recognized and mapped screens.  Generated scripts will provide highly detail reproductions of responses based on original variables.  For example, if a recording includes three customer inquiries, a generated script will provide the unique screens for each of the three customers, all driven by whatever unique navigation visited the screens (for example, keying one of the three customer numbers in a search screen).

Full Manual Scripting

With full scripting, currently only supported for TN3270, the Simulated Host service can act just like any given host application within the limitations and patience of the Simulated Host script developer.  See Creating Custom Scripts for information on how to create a full Simulated Host script.  Note that while full scripting is only supported for TN3270, you can still copy and paste screens and logic originated from other terminal types and recorded in Inventu Viewer+ log files.

Log Playback

With log playback, the Simulated Host will display screens in the same order they were created in a Inventu Viewer+ log or recording file.  In playback mode, the input to the host is only used to advance to the next screen (or received updates in VTxxx mode).
