Inventu Viewer Microsoft Management Console Snap In

The Sessions View will display the session status across the servers in the cluster.  In our example we have user-based concurrent licensing so that the number of sessions on each server are multiplied by the licensed sessions per server.  In this example it is 3 sessions per user.

Note that you can interact with individual servers by Right-Clicking. Available actions include Hold and Release.

Column Heading

Description

Name

Name of the clustered server as assigned in the license when it was created by Inventu.  All clustered servers start with "Cluster".

Active

Is the server Active or on On Hold.  Here is what the View is like with one server on hold:

fvcp0035

Address

Address of the server, either a DNS name or IP address.

Active

How many sessions are Active on the Server, taken from the server's local session allocation.  The local allocation is based on the license with the maximum local sessions being a sum of the Active and Available columns.

Available

Available sessions from the local allocation for this server.  Note that when Available hits zero on an active server, the load balancer should not send any new session requests to this server.

Loaned

This will only be non-zero if this server was either down or on hold and another server in the cluster started a session from this server's allocation (from Cluster Reserved).  If a server has been down or on hold and comes-back online, this number will stay non-zero until the session(s) are stopped or timed-out on the other server.

Cluster Reserved

The number of sessions that have been allocated on this server and are ready to be activated if one or more other servers in the cluster go down or put on hold.  Note that any server in a cluster can support all of the licensed sessions between all servers in the cluster.  So this number will always be a sum of the total cluster minus the "Available" column (locally allocated).

Cluster Available

If another server in the cluster is put on hold or goes down, the sessions on that server will be split between remaining servers in the cluster that are still active.  When this split happens each server will show it's share of the cluster sessions from the down server(s).  Here is a snip from this situation using the same cluster where you can see 9 sessions from one server split between the 2 remaining active in the cluster:
fvcp0036

Cluster Active

The number of sessions that have become active on this server while "on loan" from another server in the cluster.  Each of these sessions will reduce the "Cluster Available" value as a session starts.

Total

The number of total sessions across the cluster that are available or active.
