Ticket #554 ( Pending Customer )

Short Description URGENT: Need to make lean 3270 passthrough screen for demo on pocket-pc

Description
I am preparing demo applications for pocket-pc devices to
show at Ford Motor's E2K expo next week. One of the
applications we are doing is simply providing 3270
application access over a wireless LAN connection from a
pocket-pc device.

The primary challenge is fitting the typical 24x80 3270
screen on the small form-factor of a pocket pc device.
I've already got the default screensurfer web page (going
to "toy mainframe") up on IE on the ppc device. All I need
to do is show the raw 3270 screen without the decorations.

Is there a quick way to set up (or modify an existing)
template to pass just the 3270 screen (and maybe some very
small buttons for PF keys) to the browser?

I am in a rush to get this demo functional so would
appreciate a quick response.

Thanks.

Dave,

We will set-up a global.stml file with what you are looking
for and post it to our ftp site.

When it is ready we will update this ticket to let you know
the file name, etc. This should be in 15 minutes or so.

Basically we will be modifying the global.default section to
be as you described.

We have a minimalist GIF for function keys but don't know if
it will be right for you--have you tried-out the ActiveX
control, which will make your function keys work like the
function keys of a terminal? Not always best for browser
users, but works fine for users more accustomed to 3270
terminal usage.

OK, a global.stml is available at:

ftp://www.screensurfer.com/pocketglobal.stml

Templates are in \screensurfer\hostserver\templates

To activate it, you should rename your current global.stml
to global.bak.stml, then copy pocketglobal.stml to become
the new global.stml.

The provided global.home section has a definition to connect
to the Harvard Library System, one of our customers. You
may want to edit your global.bak.stml and copy any host
connection links from it to the provided (new) global.stml.

Note that if you want to reduce the size of the font, you
need to let us know, and we can provide specific settings to
ensure that columns line up, etc.

Colors, etc. can be changed in the global_body section as you
see them in the HTML.

By the way, the provided file is hard-coded for the function
key GIF's--if you would like to use the activeX control to
remap the keyboard let us know and we can provide
instructions.

follow-ups :)

Got following errors when restarting screensurfer service
after substituting pocketglobal.stml for global.stml. Are
these to be expected?

Also (and maybe this is a result of the above errors when
the service starts), the page still has the IE Screensurfer
gif at the top as well as some others at the bottom. Can
these be removed too?

OOPS, we made a mistake--you need to rename your
global.bak.stml to global.stml.bak -- your original
global.stml is still being compiled because it has an
extension of .stml, and the new one we sent you isn't even
being used at all.

Once this is fixed & you re-compile, the GIFS will all be
gone and you will just get a minimal browser window...
