This could be due to userid/password you are currently logged-on as being different than the userid/password associated with the general machine. When you start Screensurfer manually, you are interacting with the service as a different NT user than if the machine does it as it starts-up.
Perhaps if the ScreenSurer service is set-up in the Control Panel Services applet with the same userid/password you are logging-in with, this will not happen in the future...we are guessing here though, because this hasn't happened before!
Meanwhile, should you need to control Screensurfer while it is in this state, you can use the standard Control Panel services applet to stop Screensurfer...then you can restart it from the beach scene, enjoy the sunrise and hang-out with the sunny day :)
