Description

the new surfer.exe "goes dark" by itself, at least when the other windows are automatically opened (I haven't used it 3 times yet). After the surfer folder and readme open, within a few seconds, the sun goes down, and night time arrives - but the service is still running. You have to shut down the service and restart it in order for the sun to come back up.

Thanks for the info--apparently our testers liked the new diagnostic mode so much, they never ran it as a service long enough to see night descend...
Hope to have a new build of surfer.exe on the ftp site by the end of this week, will post to this ticket when that happens...

I shouldn't default to diagnostic mode except for the first three times following installation-- which should correspond with seeing the "readme" when you open the Screensurfer service applet.
Another thing that the service applet does is automatically open the Screensurfer folder immediately to its left on the screen.
On a final note-- I'm assuming that the applet "went dark" when Screensurfer was started in diagnostic mode, the applet was closed & reopened? I was unable to reproduce when Screensurfer was started as a service. We will add a window title search on startup to detect the presence of the diagnostic window, and if present, set the checkbox on, grey it & turn on the lights.

that is quite possible - I wasn't sure if I finally got the checkbox to stay off, or if it did that by itself. I don't think I have ever run in diagnostic mode, at least not on purpose. If there would be a dos-prompt type window somewhere, there wasn't. I think the service was already running when I replaced surfer.exe, then when I started it, it went dark.

further note - it appears that the Screensurfer folder is still being opened even after the first 3 uses.

The folder popping-up is as designed, but this can be changed. Does it still go dark on you?

Haven't noticed the "going dark" ever again. Don't like the folder opening at next boot-up at all. Don't really see the purpose - it's on the desktop if I need it.

It was popped-up as kind of a "menu" for anyone using the console-- we'll make it stop after third display, and give a little button to pop it up on the console applet...
Marking as accepted (for changing surfer.exe).
