Description
I had said that I had wantd to start SS at start up, however when I entered my userid and password I had made a mistake. The problem was resolved by going into the control panel and then servics where I noticed that even after rebooting the service had not started. I amended the userid/password pair until I could start the SS service. Things then worked as expected.

Comment I will try to add validation of the userid / password to the installation program. Thanks for the suggestion--

Comment Validation of userid/password has proven to be an involved process-- we hope to get it in at some point but find its degree of difficulty must lower its implementation priority!

Meanwhile, we did vastly improve the experience for the first-time user with a new diagnostic mode (default for first 3 executions), which is activated with a checkbox on the Screensurfer service control applet. This opens Screensurfer as a console window process, displaying all errors to the user instead of "secretly" writing to the event log.

Also, when run as a service, the applet now detects the return code that most likely indicates a password problem, and informs the user to check this...

All of this is in the current download-- a general e-mail will be sent very soon to inform current downloaders of the new build, at ftp://ftp.ieinc2.com/pub/surfer/surf1_3b.exe (a complete but safe re-installation-- will not overwrite files that the user may have modified).

Comment As it appears that this kind of problem can still occur I think this problem should either be kept open or added to a "known type of problem" list.
