If your terminal emulation license includes the Client Macros Feature, this setting enables the recording and playback of macros for ASCII terminal types. Because of the full duplex keystroking in these protocols, the Macros may require more developer intervention to get them to work compared to TN3270 and TN5250 protocols. That is why the default is Un-Checked.
